Jewelry Display Tips, Part I

Here are some simple tips to get you started in setting up your jewelry displays properly. These tips are based on experiences in setting up display stands and retail store planning.

Identify the intent of your display. Figure out first the demographics of your customers. I know, that really seems deep, but it is everything to retail sales, and regardless if you are a retail store or vendor at an event, you still are selling retail. So, get to know the best target audience for your jewelry. You cannot be everything to everyone, so determine your customer’s age, buying habits, etc.

Break your collection into categories. You may recall me stating you should not be everything to everyone, but you should know there may be differences within your defined customer base. You could categorize based on jewelry origin, jeweler, style, etc. An example…have separate categories for body piercing jewelry versus traditional jewelry.

What is different about your collection? What makes your jewelry collection ‘unique’? Are your pieces predominantly crafted by European jewelers? Is your jewelry found in the Southwest U.S? determine what sets your jewelry apart. Maybe it is you that makes your collection what it is. Do you have some belief or understanding about the jewelry that others may not have such a connection for?

Keep your image. Basically, stay consistent with your offerings and answers to the questions about you and your collection. Pending your setup, you may not see the shopper again, but that should not matter. If you cannot set yourself apart, don’t make &#@$ up.
